Stella McCartney chose Art Basel week to launch her Spring/Summer 2013 collection for adidas, showcased Tuesday (Dec.4) at a swank party at a waterfront home in Surfside, Miami, Fl. sweet!
Stella acknowledged that her latest Spring/Summer Adidas by Stella McCartney collection, full of pastel and citrus hues, metallics and tropical prints, fits in well with the Miami sun.
“I do like it here, and we seem to be very welcome here as a brand,” she said. “It makes me want to hang out here more.”
McCartney has been designing the line, adidas by Stella McCartney, since Spring/Summer 2005. The collection focused on performance technology with playful silhouettes, which includes styles for running, swimming, yoga, cycling and tennis.
“I felt women were not getting the technology we deserve and not getting the design we deserve,”
“You want to be confident when you’re working out,”
“It takes a lot to work out. You have to feel you look good to make you want to work out.”
The line will be available starting in January on adidas.com and in 793 stores worldwide, including adidas Sport Performance stores, Neiman Marcus and Stella McCartney stores, including her newly opened eco-chic shop in Bal Harbour.
The store, which opens its doors early this month at Bal Harbour, debuts with a dynamic collection, while also bringing Stella McCartney’s hallmark environmental awareness to a new audience. The designer has long led the charge of fashioning eco-friendly wares, and is perhaps the largest luxury brand to resist the use of animal skins and leather across the board.
This collection in particular showcases the designer’s talent for mixing and matching.
“The two main features of the collection really scream vacation, and hence Florida, to me,” the designer says.
“I design each item, rather than outfits. I am not really a head-to-toe designer. Every piece is an object.” Thus, each item is crafted to perfection, worn to be mixed as erratically (note the stripe and print pairing) or as minimally as desired. “I am driven by the ways that men or women choose the things they wear, what makes them feel good, how it affects their moods. I try to take that on board. Personally, I have a vision for a way I want a woman to dress, perhaps because I am a woman and I know what I like. To me, it’s not what it looks like in a studio or on the runway; it’s what it looks like on a real person that matters.”
